Ground beef products sold at Walmart stores nationwide are recalled due to E. coli contamination.

Cargill Meat Solutions, Hazleton, Pennsylvania, is recalling approximately 16,243 pounds of raw ground meat products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, according to the USDA FSIS.

The facility reported the issue to FSIS after confirming that previously separated product was incorrectly used to produce ground beef.

These items were shipped to Walmart retail stores nationwide. FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers.

Raw ground meat products were produced between April 26 and 27, 2024.

Recalled products:

  • The 2.25-pound plastic-wrapped tray contains lot code 117, facility number “EST.93% Lean 7% Fat All-Natural Lean Ground Beef.” “86P” is printed on the back of the label.
  • Plastic wrapped tray containing 4 “Prime Rib Beef Steak Burger Patties” with 1.33 lb Lot Code 118, Establishment Number “EST.” “86P” is printed on the back of the label.
  • The 2.25-pound plastic-wrapped tray contains Lot Code 117, Facility Number “EST. 85% Lean 15% Fat All Natural Angus Premium Ground Beef.” “86P” is printed on the back of the label.
  • The 2.25-pound plastic-wrapped tray contains Lot Code 118, Facility Number “EST. 80% Lean 20% Fat All Natural Ground Beef Chuck.” “86P” is printed on the back of the label.
  • The tray, wrapped in 1.33 lb. plastic, contains 4 pieces with lot code 118 and facility number “EST. 80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK PATTIES.” “86P” is printed on the back of the label.
  • The 1.33-pound plastic-wrapped tray contains four lot code 118, facility number “EST. 90% Lean 10% Fat All Natural Ground Beef Sirloin Patties.” “86P” is printed on the back of the label.

Products subject to the recall will have the USDA inspection mark and establishment number “EST.” on the front of the product label. “86P” is printed on the back of the product label.

At the time of posting this recall, there are no known reports of side effects from consuming these products. If you are concerned about your illness, please contact your health care provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are strongly advised not to consume them. These products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

About E. coli infection
Anyone who develops symptoms of an E. coli infection after eating a recalled product should seek medical attention and tell the doctor that they may have been exposed to the bacteria. Special tests are required to diagnose infections that resemble other diseases.

Symptoms of E. coli infections vary from person to person, but often include severe abdominal pain and diarrhea, which is often bloody. Some patients may develop a fever. Most patients recover within 5-7 days. Some people can develop serious or life-threatening symptoms and complications, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Approximately 5 to 10 percent of people diagnosed with E. coli infections develop a potentially life-threatening kidney failure complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Symptoms of HUS include fever, abdominal pain, extreme fatigue, decreased urination frequency, unexplained small bruising or bleeding, and facial pallor.

Most people with HUS recover within a few weeks, but some suffer permanent damage or death. This condition can occur in people of any age, but it is more common in children under 5 years of age because their immune systems are immature, older people with weakened immune systems, and cancer patients with weakened immune systems. most common in people who have

Anyone experiencing symptoms of HUS should seek emergency medical care immediately. HUS patients can be hospitalized because it can cause other serious ongoing problems, such as high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, brain damage, and neurological problems.
