Former Michigan linebacker Obi Eze has passed away at the age of 36.

Former Michigan Wolverines linebacker Obi Eze has died at the age of 36. Eze’s mother and the University of Michigan confirmed the sad news.

“Saddened to hear of the passing of former Wolverine linebacker Obi Eze. Our prayers go out to his family, friends and former teammates. May he rest in peace,” Michigan football said on Twitter.

Eze’s mother sent a very heartfelt message via Facebook.

“It’s all mine!” My Obi. My #2. my heart. Father’s heart. my silent giant. Grandson of an elephant. May you journey smoothly to your Maker. My Obinna Eze, you are always in my heart, my beloved son,” she wrote.

Eze spent five seasons with the Wolverines. While in Ann Arbor, Eze recorded 293 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two interceptions in 49 games.

Eze went undrafted but signed with the Washington Redskins. He was then fired a few weeks after signing.
